Case File: Maya Han

Coming January 2027

Eleanor Han has a two-month-old in her arms and a seventeen-year-old daughter who didn't come home.

It's 1993. Maya, a high school intern at Marredbury University, has vanished without a trace, and the police keep running into dead ends. But the letters continue arriving. Some are from friends. Some are from strangers. Some are from people who should have kept their silence.

Running on no sleep and nothing to lose, Eleanor starts reading between the lines. The deeper she goes, the more she risks: her freedom, her family, her own safety. Because someone on that campus knows what happened to Maya, and they're counting on a tired mother to give up.

Case File: Maya Han is a found-fiction experience, told entirely through the mail that lands on Eleanor's doorstep, and yours.

What is a Serial Letter Series?

A mystery that arrives in your mailbox, one envelope at a time.
Instead of reading a whole book in a weekend, you receive a new installment each month for seven months. Each one is a real, physical piece of mail you can hold, open, and read away from a screen.
Case File: Maya Han is also found fiction, which means the story isn't narrated to you. It's told through the documents themselves: the letters and papers that land on Eleanor Han's doorstep in 1993, and on yours. You aren't reading about an investigation. You're holding it.

How it Works

How it Works

  1. Subscribe once. Choose $12/month or pay $75 up front.

  2. Check your mailbox. A new envelope arrives each month for seven months. No app, no login, no reminders to set.

  3. Read at your own pace. Open it that night, or let it sit on the counter and build suspense. The anticipation is part of the fun.

  4. Reach the end. In the final installment, the mystery is solved and every answer is revealed.

You don't need to be a puzzle expert or a "big reader," and you don't need to find time. Decide once, and the story keeps showing up.

An old idea, delivered a new way

Serial storytelling isn’t new. It’s how many of the most famous stories first reached readers.

Charles Dickens published most of his novels in installments. The Pickwick Papers came out in monthly parts, and readers waited each month to find out what happened next. Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes stories first appeared in The Strand Magazine, one adventure at a time, and the public’s appetite for the next one never let up. When Doyle tried to end Holmes’s career, readers pushed back hard.

A serial works because the wait is part of the pleasure. You get a satisfying piece, time to think about it, and the anticipation of what’s next. Serials have always been less about speed and more about savoring a story.

Case File: Maya Han brings that tradition into your mailbox:

  • Then: a monthly or weekly installment bought from a newsstand. Now: a monthly envelope that arrives at your door.

  • Then: you theorized with friends, family, or fellow readers between parts. Now: you have time between envelopes to puzzle through the clues and form your own theory.

  • Then: the story arrived as printed pages you could hold. Now: it arrives as letters and documents you can hold, and it’s told through those documents.

That last point has a literary ancestor too. Found-fiction mysteries, stories told entirely through letters, records, and documents, have been around since classics like Dracula and The Moonstone. You’re not being told the story. You’re reading the evidence.

Is it for you?

Is it for you?

Eleanor's story is for you if you:

  • Are tired of doom scrolling and want a reason to look up from your phone

  • Love an atmospheric, slow-burn mystery

  • Have tried the usual screen-free fixes (puzzles, coloring, a stack of unread books) and want something new

  • Want a New Year's resolution that doesn't run on willpower

  • Miss the small thrill of getting something real in the mail

FAQ

FAQ

What is a serial letter series?
A story delivered by mail in installments. For Case File: Maya Han, you receive one envelope a month for seven months, each containing a new part of the mystery.

What is “found fiction”?
It’s fiction told through the documents a story would leave behind: letters, notes, records. Instead of a narrator, you piece the story together yourself, like a detective.

What exactly will I receive?
You will receive a collection of documents every other week. Delivered to your mailbox, each envelope will contain the next collection of mail that Eleanor Han received herself. This mail includes letters, bills, newspapers, etc. Each piece tells more of the story.

Is this a book, a game, or a puzzle?
It’s a story first. The clues are woven into the letters, so you can solve the mystery before the final envelope if you want to, but you don’t have to. If you’d rather just follow Eleanor’s story, you’ll still get every answer in the end.

How long does each installment take to read?
About 20-30 minutes. You can read it the night it arrives or let it sit and build suspense.

Do I need to read the letters in order?
Yes. Each one builds on the last, so open them as they arrive. The documents will be placed in the envelope intentionally, with additional instructions given if a piece should be read first, last, etc.

Will I need a computer, an app, or a login?
No. The experience is entirely in your mailbox.

What if I’m not a big mystery reader, or I miss clues?
That’s fine. The story is built to be enjoyed even if you don’t catch every clue. The final installment reveals the answers, so nothing is left unsolved.

What’s the difference between $12/month and $75?
Both give you the full series. Paying monthly is an easy way to try it. Paying $75 once saves you $9 over the monthly total ($84). No matter how you choose to pay, the cost helps cover printing and postage.

Can I cancel a monthly subscription?

If you paid for the entire subscription in full ($75), you will receive the entire story. Think of the full subscription option as purchasing the book in full.

If you chose to pay monthly, you can cancel at anytime. You will receive the letters for the months that you paid for.

Do you ship internationally?
Unfortunately, not at this time.

Can I give this as a gift?
Sure! Just provide the address you would like the letters delivered to.

Is it appropriate for all ages?
This series has a PG-13 rating. While not explicit, there is violence, sexual content, bad language, and other content that is not suitable for young children.

What is Deadline, and do I need to read it first?
Deadline is a short audio-style mystery set in Marredbury in 1992, in the same town as Case File: Maya Han. You don’t need it to enjoy the series, but it’s a good way to taste the tone and atmosphere first. [Add how to access it.]
